At Fort HealthCare Orthopaedic Associates, our expert surgeons perform total hip and knee joint replacements for the Center for Joint Replacement. Your physician will work with you to determine which treatment approach best suits your condition, based on your lifestyle. Joint replacement could be considered when pain is severe, and interferes with daily activities or work.

Total Joint Replacement

This is a surgical procedure, in which some or all of an arthritic or damaged joint are removed and replaced with a plastic, metal, or ceramic device. The replacement joint is designed to move as effectively as a healthy, natural joint would.

Our expert specialists use the latest techniques and state-of-the-art technologies to provide the least invasive joint options, including:

  • Total hip replacement: Over time, the cartilage that protects the hip bones can wear away, causing pain and discomfort, making basic tasks like walking or getting out of chairs unbearable. Total hip replacement is a surgical procedure that replaces worn surfaces of the hip with synthetic components. This procedure can eliminate pain, improve range of motion, and let you get back to your active daily life. Our surgeons also perform the anterior approach to hip surgery.
  • Anterior approach hip replacement: The anterior approach to hip replacement surgery is a popular alternative to traditional hip replacement surgery. It potentially provides less pain, faster recovery and improved mobility. Unlike traditional hip replacement surgery, this technique allows the surgeon to work between the muscles and tissue without detaching them from either the hip or thighbone. This may help you avoid pain from sitting on the incision site, and reduce the restrictions on activity during recovery. Your surgeon can help you determine if you are an ideal candidate for this type of hip surgery.
  • Total knee replacement: Like with the hip, the cartilage that cushions the bones in the knee can degrade, resulting in pain and discomfort. Because the knee is one of the most active joints in the body, essential tasks and simple pleasures may become nearly impossible. This surgical procedure replaces the worn areas of the knee with metal and plastic components. Knee replacements can reduce or eliminate pain, while allowing for easier movement and getting you back to a normal life.

We provide an educational class two weeks prior to your surgery. This covers the rehabilitation and therapy process, the dos and don’ts after replacement surgery, our patient resource services, and preparation tips for your stay in the hospital and recovery.

Once your surgery is complete, you will be moved to a special suite staffed with dedicated nurses, just for Center for Joint Replacement patients. Our nurses are specifically trained to anticipate the needs of joint replacement patients, while maximizing your comfort.

You will recover from your operation in a special area exclusively for joint replacement patients, where friends and family are free to come visit you. Exercise and therapy can be done individually or in a group, so our patients can support and encourage each other on the road to recovery.
